Spectres: Open lecture with Prof. Paulo Almeida, FA.ULisboa
In partnership with the Architecture degree at the Faculty of Architecture of Lisbon (FA.ULisboa), the Triennale is organising a series of three open lectures. Each lecture is dedicated to one of the central exhibitions of 'How Heavy is a City?'. Each session will be led by a lecturer whose field of research relates directly to the respective theme.
Paulo Almeida, an architect and lecturer whose research focuses on processes of architectural transformation, the critical reading of urban form, and the relationship between memory and space, will lead the discussion on how the past remains active in the present-day city. His reflections on stratigraphies and urban narratives directly engage with the spirit of Spectres. Focusing on the temporal dimensions of the city, including memory, identity, historical layers and transformations, this lecture analyses architecture as the sedimentation of overlapping times.
Topics:
- Heritage and urban stratigraphy
- Collective memory and architectural identity
- Ruins, absence and traces in urban space
- The past as an active force in contemporary design
