Contemporary technologies augment the exchange of information between citizens and organizations and, more and more, between machines. How to structure the intensified flux of information as a city, as accountable, democratically governed and co-owned by citizens?

Francesca Bria

Francesca Bria challenges us to think about the links between technology and citizenship. She is an innovation economist and digital policy expert, working at the intersection of technology, geopolitics, economics and society. She is Honorary Professor in the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose at UCL in London and is part of the High-level Roundtable for the New European Bauhaus set up by the EC President Ursula von der Leyen. She sits on the Board of RAI, the Italian public broadcasting company, and is the former President of the Italian national innovation Fund. She has been advising the United Nations on Digital Cities and Digital Rights and is the former CTO of the City of Barcelona. She has led big European Research and Innovation projects related to digital sovereignty, digital democracy and crypto platforms. Forbes Magazine included her in the Top 50 Women in Tech.
