Suad Amiry is a Palestinian architect, writer, and heritage advocate, founder and long-time director of Riwaq: Centre for Architectural Conservation, established in Ramallah in 1991. Educated in Beirut, Michigan, and Edinburgh, she founded Riwaq to document and restore vernacular built heritage across rural Palestine, transforming conservation into a vehicle for social and economic empowerment and earning the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2013. Her literary work—including Sharon and My Mother-in-Law (translated into nearly 20 languages and awarded the Viareggio Prize in 2004)—reflects her lived experience under occupation, blending architectural activism with political narrative. She also serves as vice-chair of the Birzeit University Board of Trustees since 2006 and has won multiple honours for her service as both architect and author
